Amazon.com Product Description
A great choice for all your griddle needs--from flapjacks and bacon for breakfast to searing steaks, chicken or fish filets for dinner--this double-sided cast iron griddle from venerable Southern cook Paula Deen is large enough to cover two burners on your stove (at 20 inches long and 12 inches wide). It features a smooth side that reverses to a ridged griddle for adding restaurant-like searing lines as well as allowing fat and juices to drip away. Made of pre-seasoned cast iron, it's ready to use right away. And the cast iron construction helps to hold the heat for slow cooking. The two rounded, inset handles on either side make it easy to grip it confidently, even with bulky potholders or mitts. Hand wash only. Backed by a 1-year manufacturer's warranty.
Paula Deen got her start with a lunchtime catering business in Savannah, Georgia called The Bag Lady before opening her successful restaurant, The Lady & Sons. And now she spreads her distinctive and authentic Southern delicacies--from real Southern fried chicken and hoecakes to Krispy Kreme bread pudding--via the Food Network and several best-selling cookbooks.
Customer Reviews
Should have purchased two.
I love my grill/griddle! Very heavy. I re-season it every time I use it to keep it nice and basically non-stick and rust free. However, had I thought out beforehand how I plan to use the griddle, I might have considered single purpose one sided ones. When I put the grill/griddle on the range burners, the seasoning oils on the bottom surface drip off onto my range leaving the stove needing cleaned. So perhaps for my use, since I want to keep the surface non-stick, it may have been better to have a separate grill and griddle instead of flipping the surface and burning dripped oils onto my stove.
Perfect!
I bought this griddle for my mother for Christmas because of its surface size. I didn't see anything else this wide. My mother makes flour tortillas and this looked perfect. I also wanted something to grill on indoors. The day after Christmas, I gave it a quick light wash in soapy water, rinsed it well, and dried it. My mother made pancakes on it, which is always risky with new cast iron but they didn't stick a bit!
The next day, I grilled chicken that had been marinating in a slightly sugary marinade all day. Even with the marinade, the chicken did not stick to the grill and they turned out absolutely beautiful.
I made hamburgers on it the next day. I just can't stop using it. I love it! You'd think I bought it for myself.
I haven't had any uneven heating issues, but I use it over an elongated center burner and I give it plenty of time to heat up all over before throwing my food on it.
Be ready to get a workout. It's HEAVY. But, what do you expect from a cast iron griddle that is 12x20 inches? It's a little too much for my 60+ year old mother to lift, but that's mostly due to joint issues. Don't be fooled though, she absolutely loves it and doesn't mind a bit that I have to haul it out (and wash it) for her. ;)
Not for the weak
I have a professional 4-burner range, each burner is 1ft. square. This fits perfect over 2 burners. It weighs I beleive almost 20 lbs.? so not for the weak. It is well seasoned and this is something that can be handed down many generations.
